Susan Lane, PhD, MSN, RN

Dr. Susan Lane is a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Nursing at Appalachian State University. She joined the Appalachian family in 2013. She received her PhD at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (Greensboro, North Carolina) in 2012 and her Master's degree in Nursing Education from Gardner-Webb University (Boiling Springs, North Carolina) in 2003. Also, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington (Wilmington, North Carolina) in 2001.

Prior to coming to Appalachian State University, Dr. Lane worked at Gardner-Webb University as an Instructor and Assistant Professor. Her clinical background includes newborn nursery, obstetrics, pediatrics and long-term care. In addition to these roles, she has served as a Hospital Director of Education and Employee Health and as a Research Assistant.

Susan Lane serves on the Editorial Board and the Associate Editor of Nursing Education for Creative Nursing, a Sage Journal. She was selected and graduated from the 2013 North Carolina Nurses Association's Leadership Academy and the National League for Nursing's LEAD program in 2018. 

Dr. Lane is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, the North Carolina Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. In addition, Dr. Lane serves the North Carolina Nurses Association as the Regional Director and has served on the board for the North Carolina Foundation for Nurses. 

Her research interests include nursing education, connection in nursing, nursing leadership, and cultural competence. Dr. Lane serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals and has completed numerous presentations and publications at the regional, national and international levels. She currently resides in Watauga County, North Carolina with her son.
