Since a professional advisor works with students to understand program requirements and build a graduation plan, it gives Nursing (NUR) faculty more time for meaningful conversations with students about professional standards and responsibilities, as well as pathways to both graduate schools and careers. Of course, mentoring relationships evolve organically for many of our students and faculty during the required didactic and clinical courses, but the NUR program is also intentional about carving out time for these important topics in the required orientations and coursework such as Concepts of Professional Nursing, Socialization to Professional Nursing, and Professional Nursing Synthesis and Capstone. Dr. Jean Bernard, the program director, is a good contact for NUR students who are seeking individual faculty mentoring.
