Pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) Program

The four-year pre-licensure baccalaureate degree program provides the necessary educational foundation to prepare nurses to practice professional nursing in a variety of settings including local, state, national and global communities. Graduates will function as generalists in the roles of provider of care, designer, coordinator and manager of care, and member of a profession.

The program consists of 8 upper division (junior- and senior-level) semesters of study and an additional 8-week summer session between sophomore and junior years. A total of 124 semester hours are required for graduation. Approximately 40 qualified students will be admitted each year in May. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Appalachian State University.

This program is structured for students who have the educational goal of obtaining the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The completion of this program allows the student to be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Please see www.ncsbn.org for more information.

The admission committee and faculty from the Department of Nursing in the College of Health Sciences at Appalachian State University are committed to student excellence. We are dedicated to creating the ultimate environment in which students can excel, complete the program, and obtain successful performance on the NCLEX-RN exam. Acceptance to Appalachian State University, completion of preliminary course work, earned GPA, and satisfactory completion of the TEAS test do not guarantee admission to the upper division BSN program. Therefore, the admission of students is a competitive process. Not all applicants who meet the minimum requirements can be accommodated. Applicants whose credentials present the best qualifications of meeting these requirements will be selected for admission to the Pre-licensure B.S.N. program.

This part time degree completion program, leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, is designed for the student who has earned an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Diploma in Nursing from a hospital program, and holds an unencumbered and unrestricted RN license to practice nursing in North Carolina or a compact state. The RN-BSN program provides the academic knowledge and skills necessary to advance in the nursing field and/or pursue graduate study in nursing. The Appalachian State University RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
